Midnight Cinderella - Chapter 44
It was only ten o’clock when he arrived, which seemed a little early … but it was better to arrive earlier. He could help Jiang Ran prepare hot pot.
Jiang Ran was very busy at the moment, and Er Huang was scrambling around her. Jiang Ran bumped into Er Huang and hurried him out of the kitchen, “Er Huang, your entry into this vital kitchen is forbidden. ”
“I won’t give you lunch at noon if you keep standing here.”
Er Huang jumped a couple times and seemed to want to play with her. Jiang Ran still had a kitchen knife in her hand and, for fear of hurting him, and moved in a rush again. As a result, she couldn’t get away when Er Huang heard something unfamiliar, and he happily went to the doorway.
Jiang Ran watched Er Huang as he crouched beside the door and wagged his tail. Her heart grew tense. Within seconds, the doorbell rang unexpectedly.
Jiang Ran swiftly put down the kitchen knife, washed her hands, and took a quick look at herself in the mirror. After she made sure that her makeup and hair looked okay, she ran to open the door for Feng Jing.
Feng Jing still wore a hat and mask. When the two saw each other, they stood at the door for a long while before realizing what to do next.
“Feng, Mr. Feng, please come in.” Jiang Ran heard her own drumming heartbeat. She bent down and took out a pair of slippers for Feng Jing.
“Ok, well, thank you.” Unsure if wearing a mask was too stuffy, Feng Jing felt like he was about to suffocate. He took off his mask and hat. Then he fanned his slightly hot face with his hand.
“I’m still preparing the hot pot, so you can play with Er Huang in the living room first, or else he will keep coming in and making trouble.”
When Feng Jing heard her words, he crouched down and pet Er Huang. “Er Huang, you aren’t obedient today?” he asked.
Er Huang yelled at him and stuck out his tongue to lick his hand.
Feng Jing smiled and looked at Jiang Ran, saying, “You tend to your work, I’ll take care of him.”
“Okay, good.” Once she saw his smile, Jiang Ran relaxed a bit and smiled at him.
Feng Jing was stunned; he silently turned his blushing face.
He felt so pathetic. He was already in his twenties, but acted like a high school student, easily blushing in front of the girls he liked.
After she left Feng Jing to go back to the kitchen, Jiang Ran’s heartbeat slowed down to a more normal rhythm. Once she saw Mr. Feng she would become quite nervous; what should she do in the future? She needed to figure out how to get along with him soon.
It seemed as if Feng Jing had the same thought as her; after he played with Er Huang in the living room for a while, he decided to run to the kitchen to help.
Jiang Ran wanted to refuse, but after she gave it some thought, she said, “Go wash your hands and help me cut up the cauliflower.”
Feng Jing rolled up his sleeves and washed his hands. Jiang Ran laid out the cauliflower and hesitantly asked him, “Can you cut it?”
Feng Jing answered, “It might not end up looking very good, but I can.”
Jiang Ran laughed and handed him another knife. “Then I’ll trouble you, Mr. Feng.”
Feng Jing looked at her and finally did the one thing he wanted to do since yesterday— he raised his hand and touched her head. “Why are you still calling me Mr. Feng? Just call me directly by my name.”
Jiang Ran’s heartbeat, which managed to calm down, started to pound chaotically again. She looked back at the man in front of her, and saw a tenderness in his eyes, as deep as a pond. “Feng Jing.”
Feng Jing laughed. “Practice calling my name a few more times.”
“Feng Jing, Feng Jing, Feng Jing.” Jiang Ranzhen called repeatedly, “Feng Jing.”
Feng Jing looked at her red lips, and his heart was moved. He couldn’t help bending down to kiss her.
Jiang Ran’s lips were as soft as he remembered; his heart seemed to be enveloped in deep layers of cotton—soft and light. His hand gradually slipped down, and he put it lightly on her waist, as if he was holding a fragile treasure.
When the tip of his tongue grazed her lips, Feng Jing pulled back. He did not apologize for his abrupt movement. “Does your letter mean that you accept my confession?” he asked.
Jiang Ran’s mind totally exploded the moment her lips touched Feng Jing’s. Kissing him was much more exciting than swiping his lipstick.
At that moment, Jiang Ran’s mind blanked as she looked at the handsome man’s face in front of her, nodding her head subconsciously.
“So do we love each other?”
“Can I kiss you again?”
“…” Jiang Ran accidentally missed his trap.
Feng Jing smiled with his mouth raised, and did not actually kiss her again. Their kiss just then already made him very happy.
When he confessed to Jiang Ran earlier, he simply thought out loud rather than speaking after giving it some good thought. He did, in fact, later regret it and felt that he could have found a better time to confess, but now it seemed his decision was not that bad.
“Is the lipstick you applied today the Serenade No. 007 that I gave you?” He asked.
Jiang Ran looked at him unexpectedly, “You can see it?”
Feng Jing smiled and approached her, whispering, “I can taste it. I remember the taste.”
Jiang Ran, “………”
She didn’t want to live any longer.
When her pudency was at its peak, Feng Jing released her timely, picked up a knife and began to chop the vegetables. Jiang Ran slowly refreshed herself, and stood next to him to continue her work.
There was no further communication between the two. Only the cha, cha, cha sound of the blade chopping against the cutting board, like that of a heartbeat, could be heard in the kitchen.
“Sorry, it took such a long time to promise you.”
“No matter.” Someone you like is truly worth waiting for.
“I actually didn’t mean to reject you earlier, I was a bit scared. After all, you are a big star. I’m afraid I can’t work out well.” Jiang Ran cut the radish in an orderly fashion and slowly said, “Later, I understood. My biggest fear is not the fear itself, but rather, the unknown. I was just scared of a lot of the things that I imagined. I was silly. These things may not even happen, and if they do happen, I may not feel afraid at all.”
Feng Jing stopped chopping and looked at Jiang Ran, “Thank you for your bravery. In return, I will use all that I have to protect you and never let you get hurt.”
